Weight Loss

The mechanics of weight loss is simple; energy lost must be greater than energy gained. You gain energy from the various foods and other nutritional supplements you consume; you lose energy through regular everyday activities, even breathing. The problem is a body at rest or doing regular activities does not utilize most of the energy that is consumed from the average American diet. The result is weight gain. All that extra energy is converted to fat and stored for later use, the problem is, that fat will sit there and keep building up and it has nowhere to go. The solution, we need to get our bodies in a state of negative energy balance, increase our metabolism or decrease our food intake so that we lose more energy that we gain.

Basically, we want to increase how much work our body does, so exercise is key. Running, swimming, jogging or going to Gym for strength exercises are all ways in which you can increase your metabolism and reduce your weight. On another hand you can reduce the amount of food you consume; if you eat less this will also lead to a negative energy balance. Choosing healthier foods will make this route easier, switching from fatty to more protein based foods will enable your body to maintain a good energy balance and prevent any excess energy from being converted it unhealthy fat. Bear in mind that healthy weight loss will not come from one or the other alone, but a balance between the two. Only eating less and no exercise is very harmful and does not do much for healthy weight loss. After a point, your body will go into starvation mode and start feeding off muscle instead of fat resulting in undesirable weight loss. Exercise that results in weight loss without changing dietary habits will put too much strain on your body and the benefits will not be worth the pain and medical bills.

Balance is key, find the magic number that gives you the right amount of food and exercise. This will result in healthy weight loss that will be beneficial to you in the long run. Set realistic goals and spread them out across a moderate time frame in order to give your body a healthy head start. I would not recommend crash dieting or intermittent fasting as they tend to cause irreversible damage to your body. Yes they result in rapid weight loss but some of the side effects include ulcers, muscle loss and increased hunger that may cause you to eat more after you have completed them.
If you have problems sticking to a diet or exercise regime, consult a dietician or a trainer to help you reach your weight loss goal the healthy way. Many gyms have trainers that will help you design an exercise schedule that is right for you, they will also tell you what to eat and what to stay away from. Remember to always consult your doctor before you drastically change your diet or exercise habits.

Wellness Retreats

Before I begin my write-up let’s face it – today we compete against time. 24 hours seem to be less and at the end of the day we wish we had 30 hours in a day instead of 24! In the midst of the race against time, keeping deadlines, worrying about job, mortgage, kids’ education and all the stress will leave us feeling out of control. And it’s not that kind of stress, which you can deal with a cup of herbal tea or an hour relaxing massage. This kind of stress needs treatment.

Yes, you hear me right- treatment to alleviate and minimize stress. Well, it’s becoming quite a common thing for those who lead a busy life to flock to wellness retreats. You will find that most of these retreats are tucked away in nature; some are in the woods, surrounded by trees, brush, and wildflowers, or are surrounded by waters or mountains and meadows. In most of the retreats, besides relaxing, eating healthy diet and pampering yourself, one also understands the path to total wellness.

There are workshops held on nutrition and wellness in most of the wellness retreats which attempt to make you understand how your spirit, body and mind are integrated. You will also get an insight on how stress affects your body and you will learn the ways how to manage it. The workshops will help you identify the lifestyle changes you can make to stay healthy.

In India, you will find numerous wellness retreats, but, the secluded ones –where each day is a good day-are nestled in the Himalayas. It is the place where weary souls come to relax, destress and connect to inner self. It’s the right place to where you can empty the content of your mind, stop worrying and be one with the nature. You get to participate in all kinds of healthy and rejuvenating activities – like hiking, trekking, attending yoga sessions, treat yourself to unique spa treatment, cycling and much more.

One of the unique spa treatments in the Himalayas is ‘itati’- and you can experience it at Windamere, Darjeeling. ‘Itati’ is an explanation of “what gives meaning to life; about how human life can be enhanced and enriched. It is a path to well being, inner contentment, wisdom and personal fulfillment… Fundamental to Itati healing is the concept that matter transforms into energy, and that energy influences and transforms matter. By regulating the flow of energy within the human body, by reconciling and harmonizing conflicting energy impulses, itati brings the inner being into equilibrium, and relieves physical and mental stress.”

Ananda is another wellness retreat nestled in the Himalayas. Close to Haridwar and Rishikesh, surrounded by graceful Sal forests, overlooking the river Ganga, Ananda assists in redefining lifestyles to include the combination of age old traditional Indian wellness regimes of Ayurveda, Yoga and Vedanta and the best of wellness experiences from abroad to bring about the complete wholeness- the union of mind, body and soul.

Ackley Cooper Shaw is an avid Himalayas traveler and loves to relax amidst the nature. In this write-up he tells us about wellness retreats.

Zumba Fitness

The main motto of Zumba is ditch the workout, join the party! and this is exactly what they have been trying to get people to do. Not many people enjoy working out and this has led to a lot of weight gain in people who could be a good weight. If you are looking for a way to enjoy exercising and continue with it on a regular basis then this could be the product for you.

Zumba is a workout routine that was constructed by Beto Perez, a Columbian fitness instructor to the stars. After careful consideration, Perez has come up with a workout that will help you to burn calories much faster and help you to put on lean muscle in its stead.

Zumba is all about the fun and this is what is drawing customers in droves. People want to find the fun in working out but this is not always possible. Beto is now giving customers the chance to enjoy their daily routines and they are not complaining. Reviews on this product are growing increasingly popular as people are finding that the weight is dropping off due to the fact that they are exercising regularly and having fun while doing so.

Even though you might find that the advanced levels of Zumba are more hectic than the lower levels, you will also find that you start at the beginning and work your way up. Once you are comfortable with what you have learned, you can move your way up at your own pace. This makes this exercise routine great for professional dancers as well as laymen.

Although these DVDs are all about the fun, the reason they work is because they use legitimate technique to get your body working and the calories burning. Interval training has proven to be very effective with this and this entails a short, rigorous session followed by short, relaxed session. This kind of training allows your body the rest it requires to reenergize during the sessions but it is also continuously burning calories.

The dance styles make these DVDs so much fun. While you are training you will also be learning a variety of dancing styles such as flamenco, salsa and mambo and you can use these DVDs to tone your body and your dancing skills. Having fun with them means that you will want to spend more time working on your dancing and this will ultimately lead to more time spent exercising your body.

If you do not want to leave the comfort of your home in order to practice Zumba then you dont even have to attend the classes; you can simply buy the DVDs or the Wii game and practice at home. By using these options, you will get to dance whenever you want and you wont have to feel shy when it comes to practicing in front of other people.

When it comes to Zumba gear, finding the right clothing is easy; you can either purchase the Zumba line of clothing and accessories or simply use the most comfortable clothing that you own. Many people prefer to buy the official range simply because it enables them to get into the mood for Zumba and they dont mind spending a bit extra due to all of the benefits that it allows them.

If you want to try Zumba for 30 days then you can do so and return the item if you are not happy. Although many customers prefer to choose this option, not many of them return the product at all. Once you try this exercise routine, you will be having so much fun with it that you will only want more.

People who try Zumba for the first time are sometimes overwhelmed when it comes to the workout sessions because they find that they can be pretty rigorous. If you are overwhelmed by the sessions then all you need to do is move back a level or two and work your way back up again. Once you are fit enough to handle the more difficult levels, you will be surprised at how well you can keep up.

People who give Zumba a try are usually hooked very quickly. There is something about the Latin-dancing and the resistance training that combines fun with a good workout.
